Switzerland Reflection
I finally got back from Switzerland. I had a blast the last couple of days. I went to Basil last Tuesday, and visited the famous KunstMuseum, and Puppet Museum, which holds the largest Teddy Bear collection in the world. On Wednesday and Thursday, we took a two day trip to Geneva. We visited the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), World Trade Organization, and attended the Conference on Disarmament. It was truly an awesome experience. Unlike other cities in Switzerland that turn into a ghost town by 6:30PM, Geneva actually has a very hot night life.
The Conference on Disarmament was the coolest thing; it totally resembled The Interpreter, with bunch of old, balding diplomats sitting around listening to other diplomats making a prewritten statement. We heard from Russia, China, Pakistan, India, (all of which have nuclear weapons), Kenya, and Morracco. I was able to listen to the Chinese translators translating English and French. Our speaker from our previous visit to the UN, Mr. Tim Caughley (Ambassador from New Zealand) was there as well sitting in the very front as the Secretary of the Conference.
I really had a great time in Geneva hanging out with my Friends, while experiencing modern diplomacy in action, and on top of which I studied for my final, that took place on Friday.
Early Saturday morning, I took the earliest train at 5:34AM to Zurich Airport with Christine. And a very very long plane ride later full of exciting drama due to AA's incompetence I was finally home, which marked the official ending of the most eventful month of my life so far.
To be quite honest, I missed the U.S. very much. I missed the inner workings of capitalism at its best (am I evil now?!); I missed that I can have the most delicious Burrito while driving back from the Airport at 9:30PM; I missed all the airconditioned buildings; I missed that all the stores actually open till after 6PM and not closed during lunch time; I missed that I can have Chinese food, Korean food, and Vietnamese food all in one day; and most of all I missed home.
But at the same time I am really grateful to have seen the Matterhorn before it changes its shape due to global warming, to see the Louvre before it collapses from excessive weight due to visitors, and to see an American win The Tour de France once again, before being tested positive on his urine test. Ok now I'm just being cynical.
All kidding aside, this trip had certainly exceeded all expectations. I have learned so much both academically, and on life in general, and met really terrific people.
