An Interesting Encounter

So on Thursday, 2/16/2006 as I was walking on my way to my corporate finance discussion, I had a very interesting encounter, a very Berkeleian encounter I shall put it.

Since my discussion was at five o'clock, and I finished my dinner early, I had some time to kill before my discussion, so I was talking to Holly while walking to Tan Hall. And as we were talking and walking towards the University Library, there was a table set up in the middle of the road, and a couple of people talking to each other. A woman started walking towards us, and she started talking to us about how the study of economics being taught in school is all wrong, which I found very hilarious, so I started talking this woman. She went on and said how free trade and globalization are just 'bunk' and they're hurting the economy and the standard of living of our society. Though I guess I could see her point, her arguments were very incohensive; however, since I don't really know that much about economic history, I couldn't really come up with a counter-argument for some of the stuff she said. She suggested that I check out the 'literature' by Lydon LaRouche, who, according to her, is a 'world-class economist'. Since getting into college I have been keeping up with the most recent literature, Nobel Lauriates, and important economists, so when she told me about this World-class economist that I've never heard of, I became quite intrigued. She gave me some of his literature, and I was on my way to my discussion.

After the discussion and AIESEC meeting, I came back to my dorm, and I still couln't understand that if this guy is so famous how could I have never heard of him, so out of curiosity, I Wikipediaed(www.wikipedia.org) this guy, and it turned out that he is a Conspiracy Theorist.....HAHAHAHAHA.

Why am I not surprised?!

I guess the moral of this story is that random people you meet on the street can always broaden your perspective, and I have got to take a Economic History course.
